HCV

The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program is the federal government's major program for assisting low and very low-income families to rent decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market by paying a portion of the family's rent each month.

The participant is free to choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program and is not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects.

Income is one factor that determines eligibility for the HCV Program.  The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) establishes income limits by family size.

Participant families will pay 30% of their adjusted monthly income for rent and utilities.  The Payment Standard, which includes rent and utilities, is also used to determine a resident's portion of rent.

Payment standards as of 1/1/2024:

Unit Type                                            Maximum Rent

1 bedroom                                              $798

2 bedroom                                              $1047

3 bedroom                                              $1342
